Public has until July 14th to vote
Richard Loverne’s determination to see construction of a fishing pier in Walton County has been an uphill struggle ever since he began his advocacy back in 2016. “I’m trying,” he says, “to use the power of the people process,” to get a referendum on the ballot, so that the “people of this county can be heard.” His pleas, to this point, have not persuaded the Board of County Commissioners to schedule a vote to place the question on this year’s ballot. However, the County has set up an online survey, to informally ask Walton County residents if they would like to see a fishing pier built in Walton County. Many questions would still need to be considered, as to where the pier would be constructed, and what entity would pay it, but for Loverne, it’s a beginning. “This is true Democracy in action,” he said, “ I am very appreciative of those who started this survey. All I’m asking for is to let the people decide.” If the public would like to participate in the fishing pier survey, please visit www.surveymonkey.com/r/NRZ25WT. The survey will remain open until July 14th.
