On Friday, May 6, 2022, The Merchants of Rosemary Beach happily presented Walton County Habitat’s 4th Annual Hard Hats & High Heels Luncheon, gathering at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort in the Linkside Ballroom, adjacent to the Sunset Bay Café, from 11am – 1pm.

This year’s event showcased keynote speaker Retired Colonel Gilda Jackson, a silent auction, games, prizes, an awards presentation, seated lunch, complimentary featured cocktail (21+), and more. Hard Hats & High Heels provided an amazing networking opportunity for women in business to celebrate the accomplishments of our peers in this community.

We want to congratulate our 2022 Veronica Macias Power Woman of the Year Jane Kerrigan of Hand Arendall Harrison Sale LLC and 2022 “Glamor to the Hammer” recipient Lynn Grossi. These women have played essential roles in the organization’s success, especially in the last year.

This month, we presented Publix Super Market at South Walton with our Habitat ReStore Walton County #RaiseOurRoof Award! Over the years, Publix Super Market Charities has donated over $176,000 to our local Habitat. Even more, the South Walton team has done several #PublixServes days with us. This year, you may have seen their green shirts at our Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation #LumberofLove events.

Women Build: Power Tool Training, Saturday, September 24, 2022

Let’s celebrate women’s empowerment through important power tool training. Join us at our ReStore from 10am – 12pm to see a free, live demonstration of essential worksite tools. Girls play house, women build them!

The need for affordable housing in our communities is alarming. According to 2019 State of the Nation’s Housing report: Lack of affordable housing, a report featured on the Habitat for Humanity International website by Robert Hickey, Director of Housing Policy Development and Analysis at Habitat for Humanity International:

“More than 18 million households — 1 in 6 — are paying more than half of their income on housing and are considered severely cost-burdened. The largest share of these households includes 9.5 million renters earning less than $30,000 per year and 5.4 million homeowners earning less than $30,000.”
