The effort was coordinated in partnership with Deputy Sheriff Greg Barton of Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Florida, and Washington County Animal Control. Owner Faces Criminal Charges The owner of these distressed animals was arrested and is currently facing four 3rd degree felony charges and 30 1st degree misdemeanors. All animals were legally transferred to Alaqua Animal Refuge for immediate treatment and future adoption. Horrific Conditions Demand Immediate Action Amidst a heatwave, with heat index soaring above 110 degrees, the team discovered animals trapped in a trailer without electricity, water, or adequate food. The conditions were beyond deplorable—filled with trash, debris, and life-threatening holes in the flooring. No Animal Left Behind “I originally planned to assess the situation and try to find placement for these animals, as we are always at full capacity,” said Laurie Hood, Alaqua Founder. “However, once I witnessed the dire conditions, leaving any animal behind was not an option.” A Grim Race Against Time The situation was so extreme that some animals were found deceased. Many of the remaining dogs, puppies, and exotic birds were skittish, many requiring tranquilization for safe removal. A miniature horse that was struggling to live when found, despite around-the-clock care, had to be humanely euthanized. Ongoing Care for... Read More

DRUNK DEFUNIAK SPRINGS MAN SHOOTING AT A TREE NEARLY HITS SLEEPING NEIGHBOR

Please use the SHARE buttons to forward this newsAugust 28, 2023 WALTON COUNTY, FLA— A DeFuniak Springs man is arrested on multiple felony charges after shooting into a neighbor’s home and threatening another. On August 25th Walton County Sheriff Deputies responded to 38 Willie B. Parker Road after a call about an argument and the sound of gunfire. When deputies arrived, they saw a white male with no shirt standing on the porch with his right arm stretched out holding a firearm. At that moment, the man fired two shots. Deputies got into a tactical position and the individual went inside the residence. Deputies were able to determine the subject was Randall Holley, 26. Holley came out of the home after a short time and was detained. An investigation found he had in fact fired multiple rounds towards a tree in the front yard. One of the rounds missed the tree and struck a home across the street. When checking the residence, a bullet was lodged in an interior door feet away from where a woman was sleeping. It was also discovered that when neighbors attempted to intervene during an argument Holley was having with his wife, he pointed the gun at them, threatening to kill them. As a result of the findings, Randall was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting a missile into an occupied dwelling, using a firearm under the influence of alcohol, and discharging a firearm in public. Design and Culture: Cabinetry and Countertops Go Matte

Please use the SHARE buttons to forward this news One of the top trends in interior design for paint, tile, countertops, cabinets, furniture, and more is a finish that is referenced in many different ways, but “matte finish” is probably the most common name. When discussing natural stone countertops, it is a honed or leathered finish. Quartzite, a natural stone, is in high demand right now due to its beautiful characteristics, but many of the slabs available are polished. It is not well known that fabricators can have these slabs and any natural stone honed or leathered. The next time you are out shopping for your new countertops and find the perfect slab but it is polished, ask your local fabricator about having it honed or leathered. I have been asked if this changes the stone, but honing or leathering the slab does not change the stone’s characteristics such as durability or porousness. These processes have been around for years, honing most commonly done to Calacatta marble or Carrara marble due to their soft properties. We have recently honed White Oblivion Quartzite, White Santorini Quartzite, and Matarazzo Supreme Quartzite all of which are all stunning. If you prefer quartz countertops and are interested in a matte finish, check out Cambria, Caesarstone, and Silestone quartz, all available at Granite Plus. If you plan on a matte quartz finish, I recommend planning ahead as many of these colors are special order which often means longer wait times. Cambria refers to this finish as... Read More
